Foam cladding render in Bendigo.
EPS polystyrene cladding with a mesh-reinforced render and acrylic top coat. The rendered-masonry look with a built-in insulation layer, ideal for extensions, upper storeys, feature walls and warming up a tired Bendigo facade against the Central Victorian extremes.
How the system works.
Foam cladding render, sometimes called an EPS render system, is built in layers. Sheets of expanded polystyrene foam are fixed to the frame or to an existing wall with adhesive and mechanical fixings. A base coat of render is troweled on and a fibreglass mesh is embedded in it, which is what gives the system its impact and crack resistance. Once that has cured, a flexible acrylic top coat goes on in your chosen colour and texture. The finished wall looks like solid rendered masonry but is light, flat, and insulated.
Why it suits Bendigo.
- Insulation against the climate. Bendigo summers reach 40 degrees and winters bring frost. The EPS layer sits outside the frame and lifts the wall’s R-value, helping keep heat out in summer and in during winter.
- Lightweight on extensions. For a second storey or a lightweight-framed extension, foam cladding gives the rendered look without the weight of brick, which keeps the structure and the footings simpler, an advantage on reactive clay sites.
- Dead-flat feature walls. EPS gives a perfectly flat face for modern, sharp-edged designs that are hard to achieve on rendered brick.
- A facelift for old homes. Cladding over a tired brick or weatherboard wall modernises the look and improves comfort in one job.
Detailing matters.
A foam system lives or dies on its detailing. The fixings, the mesh laps, the corner beads, the flashings at windows and the clearance to the ground all have to be right, or water finds its way behind the foam. We install to the manufacturer’s system specification with proper weatherproofing details, because a cheap foam job that leaks is worse than no cladding at all. On reactive clay sites we keep the system clear of the ground and detail the base correctly so rising moisture cannot get in.
A worked example.
A new lightweight-framed rear extension on a home in Epsom, roughly 40 square metres of wall: 75mm EPS panels fixed and rendered with mesh reinforcement, beads and flashings, finished in a tinted fine-texture acrylic coat to match the existing house. That runs around $3,800 to $5,200 in 2026. Cladding an entire existing home for insulation is quoted per job after we assess the wall and the eaves.

Where we work.
Foam cladding questions.
What is foam cladding render?
A wall system built from EPS polystyrene foam panels fixed to the frame or existing wall, then covered with a mesh-reinforced base render and a flexible acrylic top coat. The foam gives insulation and a dead-flat surface; the render and coat give it the rendered-masonry look and weather protection. It suits extensions, upper storeys, feature walls and adding insulation to existing homes.
Does foam cladding improve insulation on a Bendigo home?
Yes, noticeably. EPS cladding adds an insulating layer outside the frame, which matters in a town with 40-degree summers and frosty winters. Adding 75mm of EPS lifts the wall’s R-value and can reduce heating and cooling costs. The gain depends on panel thickness and the existing wall.
How much does foam cladding render cost in Bendigo?
About $80 to $120 per square metre supplied and fixed, including the foam panels, mesh-reinforced base render and acrylic top coat. It costs more per square metre than rendering existing masonry because you are also supplying the cladding substrate, but it delivers insulation and a flat finish in one system.
Can foam cladding go on an existing brick house?
Yes. EPS can be fixed over a sound existing brick or weatherboard wall to add insulation and a clean rendered look, provided the fixing details and flashings are done correctly. It is a common way to modernise a tired Bendigo facade and improve comfort at once. We assess the wall and eaves clearance at the measure.
